Provider was not up to date on my other communications with UCSF providers about my case.

While Dr Shinohara is no doubt a very experienced and qualified professional I felt like I was treated as just another case to be put through the process with little empathy or interest in my concerns as a patient facing a potential prostate cancer diagnosis. This element of the process appears to be devolved to the nursing staff. Also noone contacted me regarding an appointment to receive results in 7-10 days and when I called I was informed that the doctor was not available until two months later. This is unacceptable and shows a distinct lack of concern for actual patient care. For efficiency and continuity the follow up should have been scheduled at the same time as the Biopsy was scheduled.

I felt my questions regarding my mri history and results from the most current mri were not answered completely and since my biopsy was being based on these results I had concerns.I left the procedure feeling I was taking up my Drs. Time and had more question than answers

I think he's likely a very good urology oncologist but his ability to anticipate a (potentially) newly diagnosed cancer patients needs/concerns we're sorely lacking and his answers to my questions felt "elitist". I will stick with him for now because I think he's experienced and knowledgeable but he needs some work talking to first time cancer (potential) cancer patients.

Dr. Shinohara is an excellent urologist! Friendly informative caring thorough and more.

This is a bit unfair. I was only thee for a biopsy so Dr. Shinohara didn't have a lot he needed to communicate. On the other hand he hardly says anything and a little more communication would be helpful. But he is technically excellent.

I love the way Dr. Shinohara assessed my condition and explaining the game plan for solving the problem. He was hands on and very honest with me. I felt very comfortable and am extremely confident that I am in good hands. I have spent over two years of agonizing pain and suffering with practically no quality of life whatsoever because I have difficulty peeing and sometimes cannot pee at all. In the last two years I have gone to three different urologists through the CPMC networks of urologist taken so many meds that the doctor forgot what meds he had prescribed me had three invasive procedures done with very slow painful healing process multiple cancellations of my follow up appointment by my doctor's office and my condition got worse and worser with other newly added problems to my health. I am a wreck. There were a lot of guessing and trials and errors. I lost all confidence in the CPMC network of urologist.Dr. Shinohara and his team are a complete opposite of my experience with the CPMC network of urologist. Thank you UCSF! And THANK YOU Dr. Shinohara with your team of professionals!!!

Dr Shinohara monitors my conditions closely and recommends necessary tests regularly.

A lot of the advance and follow-up instructions and advisories came via text and to some extent via MyChart. I found that these tools were used effectively using my time efficiently and likely creating greater efficiency for the medical staff.

It would have been beneficial for physician to slow down and think through timing of future labwork.

Dr. Shinohara is a highly skilled provider. He performed a complex biopsy with exceptional skill.

Dr Shinohara seemed very disinterested. I had several questions for him and he seemed reluctant and slightly annoyed by my questions. He said "why you asking me? You should be asking the radiologist". Most ofMy questions were not about radiology. When asking him about ADT he said "I don't know your history?" I have seen Dr Shinohara for about 3 years. He has done 3 biopsies and run my course of treatment in its entirety since I came to UCSF for elevated PSA. I also am a provider. It's not hard to open up the patients chart and review and have a meaningful conversation with a patient. Zero empathy. Little to no interest and altogether seemed my lines of inquiry to be bothersome.

I have already recommended that my son see Dr Shinohara as his clinic is unable to identify and resolve his unitary tract issues.

Dr Shinohara is the utmost professional.

I liked the fact that the clinic exam room came equipped with an ultrasound. This made it possible to perform an ultrasound examination right then and there rather than having to make an additional appointment for the ultrasound.

He's a phenomenal doctor whose procedure was expertly done But could use a little better bedside manner. He really doesn't like to talk and needed to leave the room quickly after procedure to get to his next appointment.

Originally ordered a blood test for Creatine but at the end added PSA test as well but that order did not make it to the system as when I went to get a blood test the PSA test was not ordered.

I have been on active surveyance for an early-stage prostate tumor (T1c) at the Urology Division of UCSF Cancer Center. For ten years Dr Shinohara has been watching my condition like a hawk. He performed my prostate resection (TURP) a few years ago and relieved me of nightly sufferings. He has been checking my PSA twice a year and alternating transrectal ultrasound and prostate biopsy tests yearly. Once a year he examines me thoroughly paying a close attention to my concerns and orders complementary tests cystoscopy MRI etc. as needed. I am immensely grateful to Dr Shinohara for his attention and care.

Between Dr. Shinohara his office staff and MyCart use everything was relatively easy I got answers and concerns answered within a reasonable time and I received good health care.

he said my dad bladder is emptying alright but my need to do cystoscope & to check urethra status and to stopped oxybutinin that's it but my dad waited an hour to tell him that everything is okay is this in regards to his health insurance under Medicare?

I generally prefer the cut-and-dried approach but Dr. S. takes that pretty far. None-the-less competence trumps all other considerations in choosing a doctor.

I am trying to get a promised date for my next appointment but have no response. Left a number of messages on my chart but unfortunately no response. Although general phones were attended and the attendees promised to convey my messages to relevant people for my next appointment but unfortunately no reply.

Although Dr. S answered my questions he was very brief. when I attempted to ask for more info he again only provided minimal answers. I did not feel well listened to. I drive an hour to come to UCSF to be made to wait for 30 minutes and then for an appointment that takes less than 15 minutes. It was not very satisfying.

Had a Rezum procedure. Everyone from the car valet to the front desk on the 6th floor and nurses and doctor treated me in a friendly and professional manner and all showed good senses of humor.
