Dr. Mandar Aras is a cardiologist who specializes in advanced heart disease and heart failure. He cares for patients who have undergone heart transplants and those with left ventricular assist devices, which are implanted mechanical pumps used in end-stage heart failure to help circulate blood from the heart to the rest of the body. In addition, he has a particular interest in treating patients with heart failure induced by chemotherapy.

Aras also treats patients with pulmonary hypertension and right-sided heart failure, a condition that causes blood to back up in the veins and results in swelling of the abdomen and legs.

The goal of Aras' research is to better understand the molecular and genetic mechanisms of heart failure and cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart muscle becomes enlarged and weak.

Aras earned his medical degree as well as a doctoral degree in neurobiology from the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He then completed a residency in internal medicine at the Duke University Medical Center, followed by fellowships at UCSF in cardiovascular medicine and in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

    Dr. Aras listened to my list of questions and answered questions pertaining to the Heart. He suggested to contact my PCP for other concerns and get referrals if needed. He is always encouraging and supporting.

    Although he stated his office would send me certain tests and set up prescription had to pursue after 10 days of zero communication or tests delivery via portal and phone msgs. Also once in touch with his office and thye informed me of status of the ordered tests and prescription process rec'd email saying follow-up for my serious condition would not be with the doctor but a nurse practioner after 90 days. This is not acceptable. I expected to be offered followup with same doctor not a pass off.

    hopefully nobody I know will need a cardiologist but if they do I'd recommend them to Dr. Aras if appropriate.

    This was only an initial contact discussing my general health and medical conditions. I was told that I would receive a phone call setting up to date for tests.
