Dr. Thomas Ports is a cardiologist who specializes in elective angioplasty, the surgical opening or repair of blood vessels. He also specializes in cardiac catheterization for acute myocardial infarction (commonly called heart attack), balloon valvuloplasty of stenotic (narrowed) valves and alcohol septal ablation in obstructive cardiomyopathy.

Since performing the first coronary angioplasty at UCSF Medical Center in 1979, Ports has accumulated vast experience in performing catheter interventions. He is frequently called upon to give second opinions in difficult cases.

Ports earned his medical degree from Ohio State University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago and a fellowship in cardiology at UCSF.

    Dr. Ports has always been very professional and has always listened to my concerns about my health. He truly does care and that puts me at ease and makes me feel better. Dr Ports is a wonderful Cardiologist. I would highly recommend him to my family and friends.

    I believe Dr Thomas Ports is a tremendous doctor. He has followed me closely using medical science and his dramatic expertise for my case. He's a great supporter. He also very importantly put a stent into my heart area years ago and that has gone extremely well. He's IMO an expert doctor and I would recommend him to anyone who needs cardiac care. When our daughter had an issue a few years back the only person I recommended was Dr Ports and our daughter was able to see him. He's a tremendous smart effective doctor in my opinion.
