William Shyy

Emergency care physician

Dr. William Shyy is an emergency medicine doctor with particular expertise in using ultrasound imaging in emergency care. In addition to caring for patients, he directs emergency ultrasound services and co-directs the fellowship program in emergency ultrasound.

In research, Shyy focuses on bedside applications of ultrasound, with the goal of improving care for patients being seen in the emergency department.

Shyy earned his medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at University of Chicago Medicine, followed by a fellowship in emergency ultrasound at UCSF.

Shyy is a coach in the UCSF School of Medicine Bridges Curriculum, providing academic guidance for medical students as well as support for their professional and personal development.
